Class Description:
This 8-hour course is designed to equip massage therapists with the knowledge and skills needed to assess, treat, and manage Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders in their clients.
TMJ dysfunction affects millions of people, causing jaw pain, headaches, restricted movement, and more.
Each participant will learn:
- TMJ anatomy and the muscles involved (masseter, temporalis, pterygoids).
- Explore the jaw’s role in chewing, speaking, and posture.
- We’ll dive into the common causes and risk factors of TMJ disorder, such as bruxism, stress, injury, and arthritis.
- Discuss why TMJ issues are more prevalent in women.
- The hands-on portion of the class will focus on both intraoral and external massage techniques that effectively relieve TMJ-related pain and dysfunction.
